Hearth & Crumb

Bread worth getting up early for

A scored sourdough loaf fresh from the oven

Hearth & Crumb is a neighbourhood bakery baking naturally leavened bread, laminated pastries and seasonal cakes every morning. Our sourdough ferments for thirty-six hours, our croissants are rolled by hand, and everything on the counter was made in the room behind it that same day. We mill part of our rye and spelt in house and buy the rest of our flour from two farms within fifty miles, so the bread changes a little with every harvest.

Come in early for the best choice: the morning bake is out by seven and the second bake lands just before noon. Whole loaves can be reserved the day before by phone, and we cut and bag anything you like. Celebration cakes need three days' notice; the menu page lists what we can make and what it costs.
